From Thillot to Château-Lambert – the ore veins beneath the border: what a story!
Whilst property disputes were common between mining territories, a very particular – perhaps even unique – case is documented over two centuries along the border between Lorraine and Burgundy.
New archaeological data shed light on certain key aspects of the relationship between the two communities, such as the origins of serious conflicts, whilst also explaining – in terms of geography, resources and mining practices – the reasons behind different technical choices.
Lecture given by Francis Pierre – president of SESAM (Society for the Study and Preservation of Historic Mines) and head of excavations at the Thillot mining site.
