Trail route n° 13 - Le Maratrail

Length of the route: 48.5 km – Elevation gain: 1980 m – Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes to 12 hours 40 minutes – Markings: Trail n°13 black sign + Club Vosgien sign – Level: Very difficult.

Start: Tourist Office car park.

This route follows cross-country ski trails. It is closed during the winter season (running on cross-country trails is prohibited); before setting off, check the snow report to see whether the Nordic area is open or not.

Set off on an intense adventure in the Haute Moselle Valley!

This Maratrail takes you right into the heart of the Ballons des Vosges, with a substantial but well-paced elevation gain.

Caution: this route passes through livestock farming areas (Tête des Champs). Guard dogs may therefore be present. The route may also be temporarily closed to accommodate the needs of farmers. Please follow the correct approach when encountering guard dogs: stay calm, do not approach the herd and do not interact with the dog; bypass the area if possible.

Finally, remember that in the mountains, you are always on someone’s land and they are tolerating your presence; on this route, you may encounter the owner’s dogs in the Pré Martin area.

Whether you set off from Bussang, Saint-Maurice, Le Ménil or Le Thillot, each village offers a chance to pause before setting off once more to tackle the peaks.

Smooth and varied, the route alternates between forest trails, wide tracks and breathtaking views.
